Izzy and I went for a walk after lunch today. It was beautiful weather and we were trucking along (trying to get my exercise in while I pushed her stroller). When she looks up at me and says, "Out." So I let her out and out pace reduced dramatically. Instead of rushing her or getting all hot and frustrated at the now snail pace we were moving, I decided to enjoy this time with my daughter.
We looked closely at all the flowers we passed and talked about the colors. We chatted about the scampering squirrels, which I have come to see as kinda cute yet rat-like. During this time she also pointed out all the rocks, sand and sticks. Because her brothers are gone for the week Izzy is getting some major one-on-one time. We also eat our lunch of hummus and pretzels together with her sitting on the counter while I stand next to her.
I was reading a book yesterday where the main character had a moment of realizing it's when we are appreciative and recognize the small blessings that is when they actually become the big blessings in our lives. Having this time right here and now swinging next to Isabel outside in our backyard is where my blessing is at. It has no "monetary" value and yet it is priceless. Her smile, her laugh, and her sweet kisses make me truly thankful. So excuse me while I chase squirrels with my little girl.
