Exercise is one of those words that a lot of people hate. Same with working out and diet. I personally hate diet. Give me some chocolate covered raisins and a diet coke and I'm happy as a clam. We all know people do these things for a variety of reasons- to look good, to get in shape, to go on vacation, to wear a smaller size, to be healthy.. blah blah blah. I could probably be described as a lazy person. Especially as a teenager. I was basically an average teen where it seemed like most of my friends were tinier than me. One time this rounded girl, who I knew slightly, said to me, Sarah, you must work out. (BAHAHAHA) I was like, no, not really. I mean kind of. I guess sometimes. (I never worked out, I just didn't want to be mean.)
When I was pregnant the first time I gained 60 pounds. That's a lot. I didn't lose it all either. Then I got pregnant again and gained the same amount. I was like, um no. So I got on my exercise bike and started riding. Let's just say, I started slow. Then I found a boot camp workout by Bob Harper. Love, love, love. Why? Because it started with only 20 minutes for the first two weeks. After that I had to add on a 15 minute segment for the next two weeks. Then I added a 10 minute segment for the last 2 weeks. I felt pretty good about myself for just starting, so I bought a Jillian Michaels dvd. yada, yada, yada... I ended up losing all the weight within about 5 months. I've now had my third baby (and our last) and I'm again trying to lose all the baby weight because I did it before, so I know I can do it.
Here's what I've learned. It doesn't matter what other people say, think or do. No one is going to work out until they are personally motivated to do it. And reading books about exercise and diet does no good. Exercise is like faith. It must be acted, because it's a verb. You can't read about exercising and expect it to change your life. You can't just talk about exercising and expect your body to change. Just like faith. We must act on it, we must do something. And like faith, it helps if we start small, you gotta start somewhere. Start with what you can do, like taking walks. Do that for a couple weeks and then add something on to it. I want people to exercise because I care about them, and I want them to live a long and healthy life. I know I'm not an expert, but I am a regular person who knows how hard it is to lose weight. And how hard it is to eat healthy. Like Nike says, Just Do It.
