Paul and his dad played in golf tournaments together a lot when he was growing up. His dad invested a lot of time into playing golf with Paul. It's part of what has made them so close; his dad found something that Paul is interested in and good at and then did it with him.
I read a book called Love Does, by Bob Goff, probably one of my favorite books. In it he talks about God and how you should think of the thing you most want to do. Is it parasailing, feeling the wind through your hair? Is it teaching little kids how to read and seeing the wonder in their eyes as they discover the world? Or maybe what you want is to play Pebble Beach with your dad and two boys, because its one of the most beautiful golf courses. God is saying, Let's go do that together! He put those desires in you. Like a dad wants to be a part of his kids' lives, so God wants to be a part of yours. Your DNA was created a certain way because God likes you just the way you are.
One of my brothers just graduated college with a degree in the performing arts. To pursue his dream he moved to Dallas with no job and no place to live. Literally. Oh and no friends. Good thing he had a car. And family. Within 4 months he now has his own place, 2 jobs, friends and he can pay his own bills. God is good. His life is making for a good story. "A story involves a character who wants something and overcomes conflict to get it."- Donald Miller in A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.
As an individual and as a parent I want to write a good story for my life and an interesting story that my kids want to be a part of. When I read a new book if the character can't pull my attention in by the first 50 pages I give up on him. When your kids are little you are the most interesting person they know. But when they hit school age, watch out! Now there's competition, now you have to work at it. Write your life story to mean something, to do something that has purpose for your whole family.
